SIDIL: The New Era of Labor Inspections in Mexico and How to Prepare

In 2025, the Secretariat of Labor and Social Security (STPS) took a decisive step towards modernizing labor supervision with the launch of Data Intelligence System for Labor Inspection (SIDIL). For the first time, federal inspections in Mexico will rely on artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to detect, with greater precision, workplaces with a high risk of non-compliance.

This change has a direct impact on companies, since the The probability of receiving an inspection will no longer be random, but will depend on a risk profile built with historical data, accident records, salaries, contracts and more.

What is SIDIL and how does it work?

SIDIL processes information from more than one million previous inspections and more than 35 million risk estimates. Thanks to algorithms from Machine learning, this system:

  • It prioritizes inspections of companies with a high probability of non-compliance.
  • Avoid repeated reviews at already verified centers.
  • Optimizes public resources to cover more sectors and regions.

In addition, it is aligned with the Labor Reform 2019 and with policies of transparency and open access to data.

Implications for companies

Under this scheme, prevention will be the best strategy. The areas of human resources, regulatory and legal compliance they must reinforce internal controls to avoid findings during a work visit.

La Federal Labor Law establishes severe penalties for those who fail to comply with provisions on working hours, security, discrimination, worker registration and subcontracting. With SIDIL, the chances of these practices being detected increase.

If a company in the manufacturing sector has a high number of incapacities due to accidents, inconsistencies in contracts or salaries reported to the IMSS, SIDIL may mark it as High risk and prioritize your inspection, even if it's never been reviewed.

How to prepare

  1. Preventive internal auditing: Review compliance with the LFT, internal regulations and obligations with IMSS and Infonavit.
  1. Documentary update: Contracts, payroll, safety and health records.
  1. Ongoing training: Training of middle managers and staff in legal and safe work practices.
  1. Implement voluntary programs: Like the Voluntary Labor Verification Program (VELAVO), which can reduce the risk of sanctioning inspections.

The use of AI in labor inspections marks a before and after for companies in Mexico. Compliance with labor regulations is no longer just a legal obligation, but a business strategy to avoid sanctions and protect corporate reputation.
